The ChildLives project was awarded additional funding from the University of St Andrews’ Impact and Innovation Fund (IIF) to build partnerships (non-academic advisory board and policy network) with Scottish, UK, and European stakeholders to lay the groundwork for generating impact from the ChildLives project.

The ChildLives project visited Bologna for the European Population Conference (EPC) 2026. PI Dr Júlia Mikolai presented ‘Diverging destinies across the life course?‘ in session 119 ‘Child Custody and Children’s Outcomes’ (Saturday, 6 June 11:00-12:30, room G).
New paper on complex families
January 2026
A new paper, by Michaela Šťastná, Dr Júlia Mikolai, Prof Nissa Finney, and Dr Katherine Keenan, looks at complex family trajectories in the UK from the perspective of children up to age 10. Understanding Society data shows that more than 25% of children do not grow up with biological parents, and children of more educated, Asian, and migrant mothers tend to grow up with married parents.
